Civil DisobedienceJuly 2009 (00:00:00)This July, IN THE LIFE is proud to present "Civil Disobedience," part II of its Summer of Stonewall series, celebrating the 40th anniversary of The Stonewall Riots.
We don't know for sure what happened when police officers raided the Stonewall Inn. What is known is that on that historic night, when LGBT patrons united to fight back against harassment and brutality, a movement was born. This month, IN THE LIFE looks at how this historic act of civil disobedience ignited a movement for LGBT civil rights.

40th Anniversary of StonewallJune 2009 (00:00:00)In this special one-hour Pride episode, we celebrate the 40th Anniversary of Stonewall, and look at the history of our ongoing struggle for civil rights and true equality. We explore the rise and fall of independent queer press, and the experience of today's homeless LGBT youth. Larry Kramer stresses the importance of teaching LGBT history, and we meet Gilbert Baker, the creative soul who gave us the most recognized symbol of our movement, the Rainbow Flag. |

We conclude with The Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence, a global collective of queer performance artists who defy expectation using the power of parody to promote human rights, respect for diversity, and spiritual enlightenment. |
